Virginia Highland Homes for Sale

If you’re looking for Virginia Highland homes for sale you’re at the right place.  But first a little about the neighborhood. Virginia Highland is one of Atlanta’s great neighborhoods.  Named for the intersection of Virginia and Highland Avenues, it was developed in the early 1900’s. Virginia-Highland’s north boundary is Amsterdam Avenue and the neighborhood of Morningside, and on the east by Briarcliff Road and Druid Hills, on the south by Ponce De Leon Avenue and the Poncey Highland, and on the west by the old rail line, now the Atlanta Beltline.  Virginia Highland has the feel of a village in the city, with it’s walkable neighborhoods and commercial center.  And in that center has some of Atlanta’s most iconic spots.  Highland Tap,  Fontaine’s,  and Moe’s and Joe’s are just a few of this neighborhood’s landmarks.  Virginia Highland (and Morningside) were once in danger when I-485 was planned to come through but the neighborhoods were able to stop it.  Today, Virginia Highland has a mix of older Craftsman style homes along with newer construction whenever an empty lot can be found and some smaller townhome and condominium communities.  Virginia Highland Homes are in demand and probably will maintain that demand due to it’s location, commercial district and quality schools.

Virginia Highland’s commercial areas formed (like many historic neighborhood districts)  around the streetcar stops.  The streetcar nodes were at Virginia and Highland, St. Charles at North Highland, Amsterdam at North Highland, and Virginia at Rosedale Drive. Amsterdam Walk, which is now a shopping an entertainment area was originally built as part of the Campbell Coal Company warehouse.  You can also see other warehouse buildings along the old rail line that have been converted to residential or commercial space.
